The demiurge is believed to be the lesser god of the old testament, responsible for the creation of the material world with mal intent. The term demiurge was originally used by Plato to mean “craftsman” or “artisan”. The term eventually connected itself to magistrate and was then later adopted by the gnostics to justify their hatred for the material world (Britannica 1). The gnostics blamed the material world on the malicious intent of the demiurge and that it was the reason for suffering.
